The parents of Brooklyn Burney, a 2-year-old neurology and neurosurgery patient at Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt, launched the first “Hope Grows Here” dinner, auction and songwriter night to honor their daughter’s medical team in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit and to benefit the hospital’s expansion through the Growing to New Heights Campaign. Laura and Justin Burney also hope this event raises awareness in the Clarksville, Tennessee, community about the care Children’s Hospital provides to patients like Brooklyn, who suffered a stroke at birth and a ruptured brain aneurysm shortly afterward. The Burneys plan to make “Hope Grows Here” an annual event, showcasing the stories of patients and families who have received specialized care from Children’s Hospital.
